I have always been strongly influenced by architecture - or more specifically, buildings in the process of being constructed, before the insides have been sheathed in glass, concrete, or brick, when the mechanical and engineering elements are still visible. All of the works in this category take architectural motifs such as grids, frames, windows, or post-and-lintel structures as their basic unit, and use these elements to play with notions of inside and outside, surface and depth, light and shadow. Many of the lamps, which have an internal 'skeleton' and an outside 'skin,' hide or reveal their structure, and the gesture of turning on switch becomes a transformation in the object itself.
